Grades: I believe grades have a value in that they teach the art of studying and practice. I'm not convinced they teach the art of creating music with other musicians sufficiently to cope in any environment, such as a pantomime or function band. I prefer to train a student to play and react to the music around them instead of being pressured into playing infront of a board..
